small foundation with a big impact

annual wine sale

Wine merchants Okhuysen and Domaine Montlobre have sponsored the Happy Watoto Foundation for several years, and their annual sales campaign is a source of smiling faces on all sides. The people who buy the wine are pleased because they can buy the product at an attractive price, and support a good cause at the same time. Okhuysen and Montlobre are happy to be able to access this market, and with the chance to support that same good cause. And Happy Watoto is more than pleased to receive the relevant donation. The 2017 wine sale raised a record amount of € 3,500.

How did this special form of cooperation get started? It all began some ten years ago with the founders of Stichting Vrienden van Tanzania (which is now called Happy Watoto), the ter Braak family. They took advantage of a special offer at Wijnkoperij Okhuysen, which gave anyone buying a whole vat of Domaine Montlobre wine (288 bottles) a significant discount. The family offered to let their friends share the discount, if they were willing to donate part of the ‘profit’ to the foundation. The response to the campaign and to the excellent wines was very good, and before long more and more bottles of wine were being sent to the ter Braak family and their friends. When Xavier Kat took over the management of Wijnkoperij Okhuysen, he decided to actively support the wine campaign, and Montlobre followed suit soon thereafter.
