small foundation with a big impact

change in board

At the beginning of December we sent out a press release announcing that Happy Watoto has a new chairman and a new treasurer: Dick Molman has taken over from Matti Emondts as chairman, and Fred Arp has succeeded Jan Priester as treasurer.

Matti Emondts 9-year period as chair has drawn to a close, but he will remain a member of Happy Watoto’s managing board. Matti holds Happy Watoto close to his heart, and he will continue as the managing board member responsible for fundraising, as he explains in the interview elsewhere on this website.

Jan Priester is saying good-bye, and will resign as of 1 January, although he will help with the 2015 financial report. Jan has worked on behalf of the welfare of the children in Kikatiti and Ngorika for over nine years. The managing board, and especially the children, wish to thank Jan for all his efforts and insight. Jan is not a fan of big parties or celebrations, but the managing board held a small ceremony to mark his leaving, and he will take a final tour of Tanzania in March 2016. And fortunately Jan will continue to serve as an ambassador (

We also regret that Ruud Kroon will also be leaving us. Although he has only been a member of the managing board for a short time, his other work currently requires so much time and energy that he is unable to commit fully to Happy Watoto. We thank Ruud for the work that he has already done, particularly with respect to exploring new sources of fund raising.
Marga van Winsten, our secretary and member of the managing board since 2009, ensures that stability of the organisation, and provides broad support for the managing board.
As of 1 January, the composition of the managing board of Happy Watoto is as follows:
Dick Molman, chairman
Fred Arp, treasurer
Marga van Winste, secretary
Matti Emondts, fundraising
We would like to expand the managing board to include a fifth member, but for time being we will continue with only four whilst we look for a new member.
