small foundation with a big impact

Edward's challenges

In the past we have experienced some problems with our teenaged girls. Last year one of our girls became pregnant before completing her secondary education. Our management team has tried to identify the factors that could lead to such situations.

Our findings indicate that our teenaged students rarely talk about sexual issues or their feelings. It is a sensitive subject in Africa, and it is not discussed with children of this age. However, we believe that children in secondary school are old enough for this, and should be given the opportunity to talk about it. That is why we started a programme in May that involves inviting social workers and the director Edward to visit the children at school and talk about this subject with them. The children have found this to be a positive experience.

Note: this item is no way related to the girls in the accompanying photo.
