Happy Watoto helps children stand on their own two feet.
METHOD
Happy Watoto helps vulnerable children (aged 3-18 years) in the Arusha region to build an independent life. We do this by offering them a safe and healthy environment and access to quality education. During the entire process, attention is paid to developing a wide variety of skills. Our approach substantially increases the employment opportunities for these children.
APPROACH
Happy Watoto has a unique approach, in which we strive for an independently functioning organization in Tanzania. Local leadership is central to this. The employees are empowered to get the best out of themselves and the children. In this way they are able to guide the vulnerable children as well as possible.
WHY TANZANIA?
Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. A large part of the population lives close to the poverty line. It is estimated that there are more than 1.3 million orphans in Tanzania. Accessibility, quality and equality in education are major challenges. Although all children in Tanzania should have been given access to primary school after 2007, it is estimated that more than 5.1 million children between the ages of 7 and 17 are still out of school. We want to change exactly that.
